Rob LaFond presently works as an Interactive Producer for the cutting edge NPR affiliate radio station KCRW 89.9-FM based in Santa Monica, CA broadcasting worldwide through KCRW.com. As the Interactive Producer in New Media Rob works on the flagship music program Morning Becomes Eclectic.

In this fast paced media environment, he manages all audio and video production for the web, including On-Demand audio and video, 3 streaming channels, podcasts, including off site live video streaming events; such as Left, Right and Center Live, Session with Moby and Sessions with Sia, live from the Malibu Performing Arts center, and live music sessions from the Village Recording studios. He also broadcasts and directs live video for MBE’s weekly in-studio sessions with artists ranging from Beck, John Legend, to Tom Jones, to name a few. During the live sessions, Rob sets up four cameras which he controls and switches live that get streamed via Flash through the new Media Player.

During his time at KCRW, Rob has produced and worked on various large-scale web based projects. Some of the extensive projects that Rob worked on include: MBE at 30, Development and production of the New Media Player including live flash video streaming, Morning Becomes Eclectic’s In-Studio Player, Election coverage with video journals streamed via cell phones to kyte, just to name few.

Previous to KCRW, Rob worked as a staff writer and Promotions Coordinator for Mean Street Magazine. At the magazine, he interviewed artists for featured articles. As Promotions Coordinator he managed the magazine’s social networking presence, set up contests with record labels and clothing companies such as, Epic Records, Volcom, and Epitaph. He designed ads for advertisers as well as the company’s media and advertising portfolio.

An internship at Epitaph Records brought Rob out to the West Coast. At Epitaph he worked in the publicity department on Press Kits for artists and press releases.

While Rob hails from central Massachusetts and Boston, he spent time in the mountains of Vermont at progressive performing arts colleges, graduating from the University of Massachusetts (Cum Laude) with a specialized degree in Audio Production and Multi-Media.

Starting his career in music over 10 years ago, Rob designed and built his own recording studio. Over the course of those years he produced and engineered music ranging from choirs, Indie Rock albums, folk artists, hip hop, and R&B as well as audio production and scores for independent films.
