Rob LaFond is a producer, musician and photographer from Worcester, Massachusetts, based in Medellín, Colombia since 2017. He’s the creator and CEO of the popular clothing brand LaFond Medellín made in Colombia. His recent big project is the documentary project ‘LEGENDS OF MEDELLÍN’ with his new audio/visual company: The Medellín AV club.
He has worked with companies such as Google, YouTube, NPR, The New York Times, and SpaceX. His production work has been featured on Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post, LA Times, Gizmodo, Stereogum, Pitchfork to name a few.
Rob LaFond began his career recording independent artists at his college dorm room in Vermont: “People started asking me to make their music to sound like mine whenever I was recording”. They began a waiting list to enroll Rob’s talents and he produced an eclectic mix of artists around the New England area from Folk, pop, hip hop to jazz ensembles, choirs and orchestras.
In 2006, he left Boston to pursue a larger career in music and production and landed an internship with iconic punk rock label Epitaph Records (The Offspring, Bad Religion). He soon after landed a job as audio/video producer at NPR’s flagship’s station in Santa Monica, California recording and producing live to broadcast web sessions with artists such as Adele, John Legend, Beck, Julieta Venegas, Jimmy Cliff, Chrissie Hynde, Brazilian Girls, Manu Chao, Gotye (check out the studio session we recorded at The Village Recorder in LA); including writing commercials featuring Jack Black and David Lynch.
His work in LA varied from fashion brand photography sessions, commercials, work on big Hollywood films and TV, to independent films and indie music videos. He worked with LA production collective, Subtractive, producing content for SpaceX and Hollywood productions like Beauty and the Beast in VR and red carpet events. He also helped produce VR content with the infamous Two-Bit circus for the Annenberg Foundation’s signature Sound in Focus concert series with artists like NAS.
While taking a year-long sabbatical and traveling around Europe and South America, Rob fell in love with the city of eternal spring. After finishing his obligations in Los Angeles, he moved to Medellín in August of 2017, where he started the clothing brand LaFond Medellín made in Colombia, which grew to having multiple locations and selling points around the city.
In 2020, during the global pandemic, Rob started the production company called The Medellín AV Club: a multimedia production company that inspires and promotes the vibrancy and innovation of Medellín. The company’s current big project is the ‘LEGENDS OF MEDELLÍN’, a documentary that tells the stories and history of an underdog city, throughout the people that live in it. The 17 episode mini series shows boxers, singers, graffiti artists, film directors, dancers, musicians and writers from each one of the ‘Comunas’, that makes this city resemble what NYC was like 30 years ago.
